I
designed this page to help out those who will be in charge of JABB in
the event of my absence. But anyone can feel free to browse
through this. As I stated on the main Self-Help Page,
please email me if you do not find the answers to your questions here
or if you have further questions not addressed here.
God bless,
Jenni- JABB Co-founder

1. How do I
moderate someone?
A.
Log in to Yahoogroups and once at JABB's page there,
click on Members.
B. Locate the
problematic member. (I find it easiest to do this by using the
alphabet links at the bottom of the page.)
C. Click on Edit
Membership.
D. Under Membership
Privileges, click Edit by Posting Messages.
E. Click circle by
"Messages posted by this member are moderated."
F. Click "Save Changes."
G. Good job, they're
moderated!
2. How do I
approve messages from moderated people?
A.
Click on Pending under Messages on the menu at the left side.
B. Click on the Subject
of the message to preview it. If it's okay, select "Approve" from
the pulldown menu under status. Click "Save Changes." If
it's not okay, just ignore it so I can deal with it after I get
back. Please don't delete it because I always want to know what's
going on, no matter how bad.
C. Remember, the person
won't be notified that they're being moderated.
D. Also, YahooGroups generally sends out an email saying there
are messages waiting for approval. You can approve messages via
email, too. The email itself will tell you how.
3. What do I
do if a bad
message gets through?
A.
Don't panic! Just calmly moderate the person. We might
discuss later if going straight to banning might be a better option but
for now, let's stick with moderating.
B. If people get upset,
tell them matters are taken care of and not to worry but just to ignore
the post since the person probly is wanting attention and giving it
will only encourage them. Comfort those the person may have
offended.
C. I will delete the
message upon my return if appropriate. Just don't delete anything
yourself until I have had a chance to make a file on the incident.
4. How do I
approve memberships?
A.
This is simple, just hit reply on the email you're sent notifying you
of a potential member. Send it. Don't even have to type
anything. You're done!
B. If you choose to
approve the membership via the web, just log into JABB's YG site.
Under Members on the left hand side, click Pending.
C. Choose Approve.
D. Click Save Changes.
E. If there's anything
suspicious about the sub request, either wait until I return or be sure
to keep them on moderated and carefully read their posts before
approving (which is what YG is set to do as default, anyhow).
5. How do I unmoderate
someone?
In
the event that someone subscribes that you know very well or is just
the alter-ego of an existing member, you may want to turn off the
automatic moderation. You can do so by following these steps:
A. Locate the account you wish to unmoderate.
B. Click on
Edit Membership.
C. Under Membership
Privileges, click Edit by Posting Messages.
D. Click circle by
"Use current group message posting setting."
F. Click "Save Changes."
G. Yay, they're
unmoderated!
6. How do I
unsubscribe someone who requests it?
They really should be able to do
it themselves. There's an Unsubscribe link at the bottom of every
YG email. But since they asked...
A. Locate their account in the JABB@YG membership list.
B. Check the box on the right hand side after their name.
It's below Remove Member. Just make sure theirs is the only
box you check.
C. Click Save Changes.
D. They're now subscribed. Please save a copy of their
unsubscription request for me.
7. How do I send the JABB
Newsletter if you are unable to?
Here's hoping this is never an
issue because it's a little complicated. But just in case, here
are step-by-step instructions on how to send JABB:
A. Log into the account at www.mail.yahoo.com.
Enter jabucketbrigade as the Yahoo ID
Enter the current password
(I will let you know whenever I change it.)
2. Hit compose.
3. Put jabucketbrigade@yahoo.com in the To:
line. No other addresses should go in the To: line.
4. Use the Bcc: line for all other address.
NEVER use Cc: since that will reveal all the addresses to everyone else
and encourage spam possibly. You may need to click Show Bcc
(above the To: box) first.
5. Click Bcc:. You'll see a window pop open
with addresses. At the top you see ac-Tb, ti-wa, or
similar. Click
on Categories. There you will see AllJABB.
6. In that window put a check mark in the Bcc:
column by AllJABB and click on "Insert checked contacts". Now
you'll see AllJABB in the BCC area of your compose message
page. You may also see a list of 50+ email addresses in the BCC
area. Either is fine so long as they are in the Bcc area and no
other.
7. Put "JABB ###- Brief description of contents" in
the subject line. For example, "JABB 164- A top ten about John's
new movie and Q & A with Andrew".
8. Put in the body aka the actual newsletter.
9. Put checkmark by "Use my signature" if it
appears, if it doesn't don't sweat it. It's being weird at the
time of this writing. And, actually, it may be better if you
created a signature since the original one says "Contact Jenni if..."
and since you're sending it I may not be available.
10. Hit send.
At some point you may get a message saying you've gone
over quota. Wait an hour and try again. Or you can keep
trying to send it. Sometimes that works. I'm sorry it's so
inconvenient but I'm not sure what else to do. And, most likely,
you'll never need to send anyway. I'm giving you these directions
only in case of an emergency that prevents me from sending as usual.
In the event you'd rather send from your Outlook Express or similar,
let me know and we'll try to figure out how to get that set up.
